Aejlies is a small Sámi cultural institution in Dearna (Tärnaby) that works with both cultural heritage and contemporary art.
Visitors can have coffee, buy Sami handicrafts and see exhibitions. During the winter of 2025-26, we had the great honour of exhibiting parts of the Arctic Highways exhibition. The selection fell on works by the Sámi artists Britta-Marakatt Labba, Dan Jåma and Tomas Colbengtson. Tomas is also part of the Aejlies organisation and he also participated in setting up the exhibition. The mix of embroideries, sculptures, graphic works and films gives visitors a powerful experience.
The exhibition is very much appreciated by both Tärna residents and travellers. Many are overwhelmed by the fact that these works are on display with us, and it has given rise to many interesting conversations.
