Between 8–14 June 2026 – the week before the Arctic Arts Summit in Umeå/Ubmeje – ten senior Indigenous artists from across the Arctic will gather for an intensive week of artistic work, exchange, and reflection at the AAS ”Arctic Knowledge Bearers and Innovators” in Granö, in collaboration with Arctic Highways.
The residency spans eight days and offers an environment for artistic creation, dialogue, and knowledge exchange. Here, space is provided for delving into tradition and shared experiences.
Hosted by Britta Marakatt-Labba, Gunvor Guttorm and Hilde Hauan Johnsen, a meeting place is created where artists can share traditions, materials and techniques while collectively engaging with a changing Arctic environment.
A common starting point for the residency is the themes of sustainability and climate change, as well as the transformations taking place in Arctic landscapes and communities.
During the stay in Granö, time will be dedicated to jointly getting to know the place, which forms an important starting point for artistic exploration. The intention is not primarily to produce finished works, but to enable collaboration and reflection, rooted in place, materials, and experiences.
