In this project, I explore the process behind duodji (traditional Sami arts and crafts) and the way I have solved different duodji ideas. I highlight everyday actions and work with the reality that many indigenous people live in.
The idea for the project appeals to me because I already had ideas about what I wanted to create. Idea-based crafts appeal to me. I see how idea-based craftsmanship means that the craftsman works more conceptually, letting the visual take shape step by step.
The work and its results consist of two installations:
Mátki Sámi ja Sámi áigodagaid čađa – A journey through Sápmi and the Sami seasons
Čiehkádeapmi – Hiding in plain sight
