The travelling exhibition Arctic Highways showcases works by twelve Indigenous artists from S\u00e1pmi, Canada and Alaska. The exhibition received considerable media attention when it was previewed in Stockholm before travelling across the Atlantic and opening at House of Sweden, Washington DC in March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since then, the exhibition has been on tour and has been shown at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse (Canada), the Swedish American Museum in Chicago, Scandinavia House in New York, and the National Nordic Museum in Seattle. The exhibition attracts large audiences and has been critically acclaimed. A total of 34,000 people visited the exhibition in Seattle alone. Now it is Minneapolis's turn, where it will be shown from February 3rd to March 26th at the American Swedish Institute, 2600 Park Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arctic Highways showcases contemporary art with widely differing expressions. The artists share the experience of belonging to an indigenous people, and the entirety of the exhibition allows the visitor to gain insight into what it means to be boundless, both spiritually and geographically, through contemporary artworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The artists from S\u00e1pmi are Matti Aikio, Tomas Colbengtson, Gunvor Guttorm, Marja Helander, Dan J\u00e5ma, Laila Susanna Kuhmunen, Britta Marakatt-Labba, Olof Marsja and M\u00e1ret \u00c1nne Sara. From Alaska, the artist Sonya Kelliher-Combs. From Canada, the artists Meryl McMaster and Maureen Gruben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arctic Highways \u201dFirst Look\u201d on 2nd February 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n On 2nd February, the American Swedish Institute is organising a \u201dFirst Look\u201d, i.e. a preview event. The event runs between 6 pm and 9 pm and features a panel discussion and a conversation with, among others, Tomas Colbengtson and Stina Folkebrant.
